Haseena had never wanted to be a burden on anyone. Many times in the past she had requested her mama and mami to let her stay in the hostel. She had even promised to pay her hostel fees from her own salary and hand over the rest of her earnings to them. But her relatives were far too greedy; they refused, unwilling to "waste" her money on a hostel when they could keep her salary in their own pockets.
Later, after becoming a police officer, Haseena made another request. This time she asked them to let her live in the police quarters. Again, she promised to give them her entire salary, keeping only a small portion for essential needs. But once more, their answer was no. They wanted her close—so her money and her labor would remain under their control.
